Who we are
Imagine being a teenage girl, hoping to prepare for your future by attending college. But theres a problem. As a foster youth, youll be emancipated from the system at the age of 18, right before your high school graduation. Youll have no choice but to work full-time to support yourself - there will be little, if any, time to continue your education. At this point, youll just need to focus on survival.
Imagine being a 32-year old single mom with a four year old daughter. You were just fine until about 10 months ago, when your employer laid off 20% of its work force - including you. Unemployment was helping make ends meet, but youve exhausted your benefits, as well as your savings. You've had no choice but to move from your apartment and stay with friends - a week here, a week there. Even small things, like appropriate clothes for job interviews, have become a major obstacle. You need to know what resources are available to Orange County residents like you who are in a period of major life transition.
Unfortunately, both situations are sad realities. Women in
a major life transition need guidance, help and support.
And, the number ofwomen facing these types of challenges
is certain to increase due to our current economy.
Each of our programs helps women in different ways.
The focus of all programs is women in transition. Click
on a program below to learn more about the specific
ways each supportds women in transition.

Wine Women & Shoes is the brainchild of Napa Valley vintner, Elaine Honig. While chatting with a girlfriend about the growing popularity of wine and food pairing events, they jokingly said "wine and shoe pairings would be a lot more fun!" And they were right. WW&S events are now in 22 cities across the country, with over 15,000 attendees per year, and they have raised more than $5,500,000 for women's and children's causes.
The Wine Women & Shoes program works with non-profit and corporate clients to educate guests about wine, introduce high-fashion shoes, and inspire women everywhere to think out of the box...the shoebox that is!
The YWCA COC is proud to announce that they have signed onto to become WWS's exclusive Orange County charity host in 2011. Event details are just starting to emerge but you can count on an extraordinary event taking place sometime in late June with many unique boutiques and vendors...and of course fantastic wines!
